4 Awesome Decorating Tips For People Who Rent

When renting a place, your hands are basically tied when it comes to home decor. You can’t really make a lot of structural changes to the place on rent, and in some cases, you won’t be able to change the wall color either – and honestly who would put that much work into a home that you don’t own?

Still, you can’t just leave your place impersonal and unappealing the whole time you’re there, and home decor is even more important in today’s work-from-home era where more and more people are spending time indoors.

When stuck in a bind like this, it’s time to get creative. Keep reading to find out about some cool tricks you can use to make your rental home yours, even if you’re not allowed to paint the walls!

Potted Plants and Flowers

There’s no doubt that adding greenery to your rental will make it feel like home. Not only do indoor plants clean the air in your space, but they also improve your mood and the atmosphere. Bringing nature inside is going to be a huge comfort in a new and unfamiliar place.

If you want, you can start with some large potted plants to keep in the corners, or some smaller ones that you can place on coffee tables and next to the windows. Something that takes up a bit more work, you can get a flowering plant and grow it in a pot. If you do it right, you will be rewarded with beautiful flowers in the flowering season.

Open Shelves

If you don’t have anything you’re allowed to decorate or change in your rental home already, bring something of your own inside.

While you won’t be able to do much with the walls, you can definitely bring in an open shelf of any size to place in your living room. Since this piece of furniture is yours, you will be able to color it and style it however you like. This can include different sorts of colors, styles, and even patterns and materials.

Once you have the right table, you can use the shelves to place things like vases, books, indoor plants, sculptures, and any manner of decor on there. With time, you’ll notice that your home is starting to look exactly like how you wanted.

Removable Wallpaper

If plain walls are just not your thing and you feel like you need to make some major improvements, consider some removable wallpaper instead of taking the issue of boring wallpaper up with your landlord.

Some tips to follow when buying and sticking up removable wallpaper are to always get more than you think you would need, and keep the designs and patterns in mind. It might be hard for you to keep everything aligned while putting up individual sheets, which is why a wallpaper that isn’t too intricate should be preferred.

When it’s time for you to move out, the wallpaper will be able to come right off.

Textures and Fabrics

Add some depth and dimension to your home with the help of the right fabrics and textures. Don’t underestimate the importance the right rug, curtain, cushion covers, and table covers can have on your space.

Use natural and textured fabrics for a more neutral feel, but opt for bright and bold colors if you want to claim a space as yours and add your own color and personality to it. If the space is too small though, avoid covering the floor with rugs.
