Can You Get Your Eyelash Extension Wet? What To Do If It Does?

You have a new glowing set of gorgeous eyelash extensions, woohoo! Extension personifies your beauty, but it comes with plenty of queries.

Can we get our eyelash extension wet? If not, what if it accidentally does? So many questions just popped up.

One of my friends just faced this issue as she has a habit of hopping in the shower and exposing their brand new set of gorgeous lash extensions to steam. And the worst she could do is just pop her head straight under the shower jet and absolutely soaked her new lashes!

Don’t worry, we all have been there! No need to stress; it happens all the time with many people. So here we are to guide you when you get plunged into this situation.

The first thing to do: Say no-no to water & be honest!

It is a vital thing, to be honest with your lash technician and permit them to know that lashes were in contact with water during the healing process. Sometimes, it is acceptable. If glue has already been set down, then you won’t lose your lashes prematurely. But, sometimes lash will fall out quickly due to “Shock Curing.”

In a fraction of a second, you will reply – what the heck is shock curing?

The lash adhesive that is used to apply your lashes extracts moisture from the air slowly and takes time to set. If you use a lash nano-mister or nebulizer, the glue can dry faster, between 4-12 hours. Most of the salons, including us, use a water nebulizer that creates a super fine mist of water. It creates water particles that will not cause any ‘blooming’ effect on glue, turning the glue white. Instead, it allows the glue to cure it faster without any adverse effects.

If you fortuitously expose the lashes to water before you were supposed to, then the glue is overloaded with moisture and dries immediately. It means that the lash extension has not adequately formed a bond with your natural lash and caused it to fall off. Too much moisture or the lash bond that comes in contact with water in the early stage will have this effect called SHOCK CURING.

What should you do if your lashes fall out?

Can you ask your lash expert to fix them for free if it falls out? Technically yes! But I wouldn’t prefer it because:

It’s obvious to tell your technician when your classic set eyelash extension falls out after exposing it to water. They will politely fix your lashes BUT won’t rebook you again. I hope you don’t want that, right?

Book an appointment to fix them as soon as you see your lashes have fallen off. They will charge you for a complete set, and it makes things very uncomfortable for both parties.

Don’t panic; your lash extension may still survive. Look if the lashes fall out prematurely. Contact and be honest that “I have accidentally exposed my extensions to water. Would you do the touch-up for me?” I will pay the amount required.

Wait for them to respond. Here we offer discounted appointments in a quiet time if this happens to our clients as a goodwill gesture.

So, now, if you get your lash extension, they demand proper aftercare. And you should know exactly when you can get them wet as extensions go well with self-care. So, let’s have a quick run-down of it.

When can you get your eyelash extensions wet?

Once you allow enough time to dry out your lash extension, you won’t have to worry about getting them wet or submerge them in water. It depends on the type of glue and extension that is used, and time can differ. Usually, you should wait about 24 hours before swabbing them in water.

Few things you can make sure that they lash for long:

  • When you allow your lashes to get wet, don’t rub or dry them off with a towel—instead, dab above and below your lashes.
  • Be cautious while applying sunscreen if you are going to the beach or pool. Don’t put it on your eyelids. The oil of sunscreen breaks down the glue that causes your extension to fall out. Rather, wear sunglasses to save your eyes.
  • Every 3 days, clean your lashes with a foam cleanser.
  • Touching and rubbing your eyes won’t make your lash stay longer.
  • While showering, don’t place your head in the full strength of water flow. Rather, let the water run down your face.

Winding up:

It’s okay! If it gets wet during the curing period, please be honest with your lash tech about what happened. They will anyway know when they see your lashes, so rather avoid those awkward conversations. We understand that these kinds of things happen; after all, we are humans. We appreciate your honesty and will always help when we can!

We are offering excellent lash extension services to our customers at a price. So book an appointment, and we would be happy to help you.
