Lash Extensions and the Active Lifestyle

Many of our clients are extremely active in their everyday lives. Whether they are mothers, college students, or professional athletes, many clients have very little free time for pampering their lashes. However, whether you are a stay-at-home mom, busy professional, or training for the Olympics- we have solutions to meet your lash extension needs!

As most of you know, eyelash extensions are a semi-permanent extension of your natural lashes. They not only add length and volume to your lashes but also make them appear thicker by darkening the visible lash line.

In this issue, we will relate extension with an active lifestyle and how to maintain it. Now that we have been in business for a couple of years, our clients have been familiarizing us with their various lifestyles. As a result, we have found a few unique ways to help each client achieve a long-lasting set of lashes!

Relation between Lash Extensions & Active Lifestyle

Running

One of our clients’ most common activities with their lash extensions is running. This is a fun and challenging sport for anyone, but it can be very difficult for lash extensions.

Running in itself is a strenuous activity, so this causes the eyes to become puffy and irritated. This irritation will cause the extensions to loosen and fall out even faster than normal. Because of this concern, many clients are worried that can we exercise while having a lash extension? We suggest our active clients take a few extra steps when caring for their lashes during and after running.

  • Do not wet your extensions for at least 24 hours after a running session. It includes sweaty gym sessions. By not wetting your lashes, you allow them to set in their desired shape.
  • Try not to rub your eyes after hard runs; this can cause excess sweat and dirt to get on your lashes.
  • When showering at the end of your run, use lukewarm water. Hot water can be very drying to your lashes; this is when your extensions are most vulnerable.
  • Do not use severe chemicals to clean your face after a workout; this can be very drying to your lashes and cause lash loss.

Water Activities

Water activities with lash extensions can be a little tricky. The combination of chlorine and the heat from sunny days can dry and irritate your lashes.

We recommend trying these steps to help your lashes survive those fun weekends at the pool or the lake:

  • Try not to wet your lashes for at least 24 hours after swimming. Wetting your lashes for extended periods of time can cause the extensions to loosen.
  • Carry disposable eye drops and place a drop in each eye when exiting the pool. This will not only keep your eyes from drying out but will also help protect your extensions.
  • Apply a fine layer of Vaseline to your lashes every night after swimming to help restore the lost moisture from the day.

Hiking/Camping

Hiking and camping can be fun, freeing, and fantastic for your health. When hiking with lash extensions, it is essential to keep the lashes protected.

  • Pack a small container of oil-free sunscreen and apply it to your lashes before heading out on your hike. Not only will this help protect your skin, but it will also help protect your extensions from the sun’s damaging rays.
  • Apply a fine layer of Vaseline to your lashes every night after hiking. This will help protect them from harsh elements and debris that may get stuck in them.
  • Avoid sleeping on dirty pillows when camping to keep from getting dirt and oil in your lashes.
  • When hiking or camping, try to avoid rubbing your eyes. Your lashes will become more vulnerable when you are out in nature.
  • Avoid dusty areas to keep from irritating your eyes and lashes.

Lash Extensions and the Working Mom

Many of our clients are young mothers with very active lives. They have little time to get their lashes done and need to know how to get their lashes to last.

Lash Longevity

  • Try washing your lashes off before bed and re-applying Vaseline to them. This will help protect the extensions during the night.
  • Avoid mascara and eyeliner on the bottom lash line when applying your makeup in the morning. These products can dry out your lashes and cause them to fall out faster.
  • Try not to rub your eyes too much; this will only irritate them more and expedite the drying process of your lashes.

It is essential to allow your lashes time to rest after they have been working hard all day. Taking care of the lashes at night is also very important, especially for working moms. Moms need their lashes to last and by following these simple tips they can!

Lash Extensions and the Busy Professional

Busy professionals require lashes that are easy to maintain and still look fabulous.

  • Do not wet your lashes for at least 24 hours. This includes the gym and yoga! By not wetting your lashes for a long time, you allow them to set in their desired shape.
  • When applying makeup in the morning, try not to use mascara or eyeliner on the bottom lash line. This can dry out your lashes and cause them to fall out faster.
  • Try to wash your lashes before bed and re-applying Vaseline. It will protect them during the night.

Getting professional eyelash extension services every 2-4 weeks is a great way to maintain lash extensions.

Conclusion

Working out and playing water sports kind of lifestyle can be strenuous on your eyelashes. However, there are some great alternatives to help prolong the life of your lashes. Using disposable eye drops every day after swimming, removing your makeup at night, and sleeping on clean pillows are easy ways to help make your lashes last. These simple tips will help your eyelash extensions stay beautiful through an active lifestyle. This will assist you in making your lashes last longer and help prevent any lash loss along the way!
